Book Cover
This whole series by V.C. Andrews was a favorite of mine growing up. The above is my edited version. And the below is the original book cover.

I love my hair!
I designed this poster with my nieces in mind. It is a poster to celebrate the beauty of textured hair. People start to develop opinions of their own beauty at an early age. As if there aren’t enough factors that create complexes in young women concerning how they look? When I was growing up, I didn’t see many people on TV & in the magazines that looked like me. Therefore I was on this constant quest for long straight hair. I was afraid of my natural texture. This is not only a national issue, but an international issue. Many times I turn on my TV to the Spanish channel and see images of people that reflect conventional standards of beauty (straight long hair), but Spanish speaking countries are mostly populated by textured haired people. Even the commercials that advertise coming to Barbados, Aruba and other Caribbean Islands show more western looking people although the inhabitants of these islands look like me. I want this poster to show my nieces that the western idea of beauty isn’t the only perception and to love themselves.

Photo-montage: My Mental Escape
I love the tranquility of water. It keeps me calm. I often ride my bike to the Hudson River. I just sit and stare at the water. It keeps my stress levels down. This photo-montage depicts the calming effect of water for me.
